State Rep. Karl Bohnak, R-Deerton, on Thursday spearheaded the bipartisan passage of his resolution, House Resolution 66, declaring the week of April 19th through 27th as National Park Week in Michigan.
“Our national parks play a crucial role in conserving our natural resources and cultivating outdoor recreation and educational opportunities,” Bohnak said during a speech on the House floor. “They are a place where Michiganders can learn more about our state’s natural beauty, traditions, and heritage and a great opportunity to attract tourists to our beautiful state.”
Michigan is home to seven sites affiliated with or managed by the National Park Service, including Isle Royale National Park in Houghton, Keweenaw National Historical Park in Calumet, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising – located in Bohnak’s district, MotorCities National Heritage Area in Detroit, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Empire, North Country National Scenic Trail in Lowell, and River Rasin National Battlefield Park in Monroe.
