If you’ve opened your utility bill lately and felt that familiar jolt of sticker shock, you’re not imagining things. Michigan families are paying more every month, and too often, they’re getting less in return.
Last term, Lansing Democrats built our state’s energy policy around a flawed idea: that scarcity and sacrifice are virtues. Families were told to do more with less, to accept higher costs and reduced reliability as the price of “progress.” I reject that thinking.
There’s nothing virtuous about an unreliable grid. There’s nothing responsible about policies that make energy more expensive for the people who can least afford it. Abundance isn’t reckless. Affordability isn’t naïve. Reliable, affordable energy is the foundation of economic growth, family stability, and opportunity.
Since the Green New Scam passed in late 2023, I’ve focused on charting a better path forward. I took the time to build a plan that lasts because rushed, ideological policy is exactly how Michigan ended up with the higher bills and unreliable grid we’re dealing with today.
This January, I’m unveiling Project Lighthouse, a new energy vision designed to guide Michigan away from costly political experiments and back to commonsense solutions. It represents a clear course correction from the Green New Scam mandates that have driven utility bills through the roof while putting unnecessary strain on the grid.
Project Lighthouse is about restoring balance. It measures energy sources by whether they actually work, whether they strengthen reliability, and whether families can afford them. It rejects the false choice between cost and consistency, establishing a straightforward expectation: energy that’s there when you need it and reasonably priced.
Michigan doesn’t need less. It needs better. And come January, House Republicans are ready to light up the future with Project Lighthouse. Stay tuned to this weekly op-ed, my eNewsletters, and my social media pages for more updates in the near future!
